(1) ONE Ipe flat grain knee slider HARD

Ipe (pronounced ee-pay) wood is 3 times harder than white oak and has a Janka hardness scale of 3,680 while white oak is 1,300. The main face of the slider is flat grain so it wears a little faster than the end grain but resists edge chipping much better than end grain. The flat grain also contributes to the lower cost. If you bang into curbing a lot I recommend flat grain over end grain sliders. Ipe flat grain sliders are intended for riders who are relatively easy on their pucks. The less expensive ipe flat grain would be a good choice for someone who only goes through several sets of sliders per season. Riders who are heavy knee sliders will be disappointed by the fast wear rate of flat grain ipe.

Maximizing the performance of a motorcycle on or off the track requires investing time, effort and money into tuning frame geometry and suspension, tire temperature and pressure, as well as devoting attention to reading tire wear and of course spending countless hours developing riding skills. Tuning your sliders to performance their very best takes tuning as well. Positioning your Puck-Em knee sliders correctly is essential to maximizing their longevity and getting the best feel. The entire face of the slider must be in contact with the ground, not just an edge or corner. Put your new sliders on and touch both sides to the ground once or twice. Reposition both sliders so that the plane of contact matches the main surface of the top of the slider. This will take moving the slider in and out as well as up and down to get the planes to match. If you are at the track, don't wait to reposition after 1 whole session or you will never be able to achieve touching the entire face on the ground until most of the slider is worn down. Once you have gotten the positioning exactly right, consider marking the loop on your knee around the slider so that you will easily get the next set in the perfect spot. This can be done with a colored pencil, crayon, paint marker, or tape.

Sometimes leather suits don't have enough loop fastener on the knee to get the correct positioning. In this case you can add additional loop where you need it. Please contact me directly if you need help with how to do this. Essentially, all you need to do is thoroughly roughen the smooth side of the leather (with a Dremel or sand paper), and a high quality contact cement like Barge. I'd be happy to mail you enough high quality loop fastener for both knees for free (if you have purchased Puck-Em sliders).

SOLD INDIVIDUALLY so you can mix and match wood species, grain type and size to find which one works best for you.
